# ORBIT — programmable display turntable
ORBIT is a small geared-stepper turntable for photographing jewellery, collectibles, miniature models and other light objects. It combines a speed dial, push-to-start control, OLED display, home-position switch and blue status light in a rounded desktop enclosure.
This is a **hardware and mechanical prototype**. Firmware must implement motion, homing, the interface and USB-C current detection. The screen shown in the assembly is an illustrative interface, not a working display simulation. Load capacity, repeatability, maximum speed, thermal performance and mechanical fit have not been measured.

## Hardware
- 86 × 52 mm, four-layer PCB with rounded corners.
- ESP32-C3-WROOM-02-N4 module; ULN2003ADR seven-channel driver.
- Adafruit **858**, 5 V unipolar geared stepper, nominal **1:16.128** reduction. This is a specific purchasable motor, not a generic 28BYJ-48 with assumed gearing.
- Bourns PEC11R-4020F-S0024 rotary encoder with push switch.
- Waveshare **0.91inch OLED Module**, SSD1306, 128 × 32, 3.3 V, I²C, connected by a four-wire harness.
- Omron **D2F-01FL** home switch, wired to a two-pin connector.
- Blue indicator, buzzer, reset/boot buttons and programming test pads.
- USB-C **5 V input only**, with separate CC pull-downs, CC sensing, resettable fuse, TVS and a 3.3 V regulator. No battery or charging circuit.
The base is approximately **116 × 136 mm**, with an **88 mm platform** and overall height around **42 mm** including the dial and feet. A 608-2Z bearing supports the platform, with a printed D-shaft adapter between the motor and platform. The assembly includes the enclosure, mat, motor, bearing, control panel, wiring, nylon service screws and rubber feet.
## Run
```sh
bun install
bun run typecheck
bun run build
bun run validate
bun run preview
bun run assembly:render
bun run assembly:export
bun run dev
```
- `index.circuit.tsx` — complete schematic on five A4 sheets, placement and native four-layer routing.
- `assembly.circuit.tsx` — enclosed product; default entrypoint.
- `exploded.circuit.tsx` — separated assembly for inspection.
- `imports/` — exact JLCPCB footprints and their original CAD references.
- `mechanics.tsx`, `wordmarks.ts` — tscircuit/JSCAD enclosure and markings.
- `docs/BOM.csv`, `docs/DESIGN.md` — BOM, pin map, wiring and design notes.
- `mechanical/` — PNG assembly previews and prototype STL parts; `assembly:render` also generates GLB files.
- `docs/orbit-turntable-gerbers.zip` — manufacturing export for engineering review.
Dependencies are pinned to the versions checked during creation: tscircuit 0.0.2928, core 0.0.2169 and jscad-fiber 0.0.89. All CAD and PCB authoring uses tscircuit-compatible TypeScript. No other EDA project is needed. Validation reports to the terminal.

## Before building hardware
Use a USB-C 5 V source advertising 1.5 A or 3 A. Firmware must keep motor coils disabled until the advertised current has been checked. Do not assume a computer USB port or USB-A adapter provides the required allowance. Programming uses a separate **3.3 V UART adapter**; USB-C data pins are unused.
Read the [wiring and pin map](docs/DESIGN.md) before connecting the motor, OLED or programmer. Verify connector pin order and motor winding/common connections against the purchased parts. The module and encoder use imported manufacturer-style CAD; the external motor, bearing, OLED and home-switch models are dimensional representations. Prototype the bearing fit, shaft adapter, button travel, display retention, lever actuation and wire clearances before fabrication or use.
Gerbers and placement files require a fabrication/assembly review. No production readiness, RF certification or working firmware is claimed.
